Job Description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a non tenure-track lecturer position (9-month appointment) in the area of Biomedical Engineering to as soon as Spring 2024, if not start Fall 2024.

The successful candidate will teach up to six (6) biomedical engineering undergraduate and graduate classes per academic year. The essential functions for this position include: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical engineering, advising undergraduate students, advising senior design projects, advising undergraduate honors students, and serving on departmental and/or college committees where appropriate. Requirements:

  • A masters, PhD preferred, in Engineering or related field with preference given to biomedical-related disciplines and have evidence of college level or university level teaching experience
  • Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Teaching of basic biomedical engineering courses and laboratories
  • Student recruitment and advising
  • Curriculum development  
  • Use of modern pedagogical approaches (e.g., flipped classroom, team-based learning). The candidates are expected to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering including the areas of cell and molecular biology, engineering mechanics, biomedical engineering laboratory techniques, senior design, and are expected to advise senior design projects.

Additional Information:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering currently has 13 full-time faculty members, approximately 28 graduate students, and 370 undergraduates. The department expects to significantly expand its BME faculty and student count over the next few years. Additional information about the Department can be obtained at bme.umass.edu.
